By any definition or failed attempt at spin, the 2014 mid-term elections were a resounding victory for the Republicans. The Conservative Party offers whole-hearted and unreserved congratulations to the GOP. They wanted to drape the Obama Administration’s failed policies around every Democrat’s neck and it worked like a charm.
The 2014 election was not a “shellacking” like the 2010 mid-terms. This was an old fashioned, All American butt whuppin’. Take heed Democrats, Hollywood and media; this whuppin’ was righteous.
But Republicans must also take heed. They must not get confused about what the American people said in such resounding fashion. Every Republican Senatorial candidate made repealing ObamaCare the cornerstone of their campaigns. Every one of them! Republican House candidates also pledged to reduce the national debt, curb wasteful government spending, limit excessive regulations and oppose Obama’s planned executive overreach on illegal immigration. Every single one of them!
And that’s exactly what the vast majority of American voters want. We did not elect Republicans to compromise with Obama or govern by capitulation or pass Bills for the sake of passing Bills so the New York Times will pen nice editorials about them. Republicans should NOT buy into the false premise being pushed by Democrats and the media that they should “now work with Democrats to fix a dysfunctional Congress to get things done”.
That is total nonsense.
The electorate knew Republicans and Conservatives have been trying to obstruct Obama for the past six years and have rewarded them by flushing a record number of Democrats out of Congress and State Houses. If the voters really wanted to “fix Congress” they would have elected all those Democrats who agreed with Obama. But voters elected Republicans and told them in clear, loud and unambiguous language: Stop Obama’s agenda and stop the liberal incompetence. NOW.
Republicans are fresh out of excuses and will no longer be able to blame Harry Reid. House Republicans MUST use the Power of the Purse to craft clean budget resolutions that fund specific parts of the government and describe exactly how each penny must be spent. The Senate can vote and pass those Bills. If Obama refuses to sign legislation passed by both Chambers then any resulting government shutdown is on him. Make every Democrat vote on each Bill for the record. Hiding behind procedural legerdemain is no longer an option.
Republicans MUST also force the Democrats live under the same voting rules they imposed on the Senate last year. Obama and the Democrats invoked the Nuclear Option by erasing the long-established rule that 61 votes were needed to force debate Cloture when voting on federal judges and Executive appointments. Democrats used that rule change to pack federal courts with liberal judges hand-picked by Obama. Now the worm has turned. Yes Joni, this will really make them squeal.
The election of Joni Ernst, Mia Love, Shelly Capito and 97 other women to Congress makes one more thing crystal clear: The “War on Women” was the new “Climate Change” ruse. Both are fake issues ginned-up liberals to fool the public. “You can fool some of the people…..”
Republicans must be alert and sharp, however. Even a cornered, wounded hummingbird can be dangerous. Obama certainly fits that description today. Republicans and Conservatives opposed him while Democrats abandoned him. He’s got nothing to lose now and may well precipitate a Constitutional crisis just for spite.
