We’ve all heard the old sports adage that you should never let the refs make the deciding call in the final seconds of a game. The player must stop the basketball from rolling off the court and not assume the ref agrees about who last touched it. The batter must swing at a close 3-2 pitch with two out in the bottom of 9th inning with the bases loaded in the World Series. He must not just stand frozen at the plate waiting for the ump to make the call.
Why? Because the official can blow the call. Simple.
But that’s exactly what Republicans did. They allowed SCOTUS to blow the call on ObamaCare. The cowardly GOP refused to act on their repeated promises to repeal ObamaCare during the past five years and gave the courts to chance to reaffirm ACA. Pusillanimous House Republi-Dems just stood around making feeble excuses for not exercising the Power of the Purse to erase ACA when they had the chance. For years Republicans did nothing but stand at the plate making empty, hollow promises that whiffed.
Republicans also meekly fell into the political trap the Democrats and the media created for them. The GOP was suckered into trying to develop a replacement for ObamaCare first instead of just ripping it out by the roots. The GOP then used the lack of a replacement plan as an excuse for inaction. This allowed the Court make the last critical call. Instead of taking a measured swing at the slow hanging curve ball pitched right down the middle, the House GOP stood paralyzed at the plate.
That’s why CP-USA doesn’t place the blame on SCOTUS entirely. Justice Roberts gave plenty of warning in his first ACA ruling that bent the Bill into a pretzel by calling penalties a “tax”. This second ruling essentially said it was up to Congress to repeal or modify ObamaCare, not SCOTUS. Roberts simply told Republicans, in effect, that they’d better cowboy-up if they want repeal and that he would not bail them out.
Bottom Line: the SCOTUS decision did not carve ACA into stone. It simply ruled that the Republican-controlled Congress must employ its constitutionally mandated power to repeal it. The Court said Republicans can’t play legal word games or rely on the courts to do their heavy lifting. (RED FLAG: The GOP and Obama are also playing legal word games (cooking the books) behind our backs by not publically voting to increase the Debt Ceiling which has been “frozen” at $18T since March. The complicit GOP “leadership” doesn’t want to give Conservatives the chance to oppose raising it)
The Conservative Party does not believe the hapless and corrupt GOP has the courage to repeal ACA. As a matter of fact, Senate Republicans just broke their promises to use budget Reconciliation to kill parts of ACA by July 24. Many conservative Senators voted for the last Budget based on those promises. GOP overlords lied to conservatives…again. Surprise!
Based on its sordid history of capitulating at the slightest pressure, we do not believe the GOP can actually hit the ball when it really counts. Remember, French Republicans in the House are batting 0-40 on repealing ACA. And Senate Republicans are 0-1 on repeal since gaining a majority after the 2014 midterms. That’s because girly-men don’t play baseball; they play softball and pitch underhanded.
