Last month two Islamic terrorists attempted to assassinate three of the world’s best known critics of violent Islam: Geert Wilders of the Netherlands and Americans Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller. It was the first attack by ISIS in the country.
In the aftermath of those attempted assassinations, which was thankfully stopped by a brave off-duty Texas police officer, some in the American media began attacking the nearly killed messengers. In particular, Pamela Geller was criticized by media outlets, including CNN and Fox News.
As the civilized world struggles to contain and confront the radical and violent Islamic threats of ISIS and Iran, the American media – inexplicably – routinely finds sympathy with terrorists who would gut the First Amendment at their first opportunity.
The Conservative Party asks: Where are the Democrats and Republicans in all this? None of the major two parties have come to the defense of Pamela Geller. You almost get the sense they wish she’d just shut her mouth.
As Ms. Geller has pointed out herself, an alarming number of Democrats and Republicans support criminalizing free speech. Make no mistake about it: this is the implementation of Islamic sharia law at the expense of your rights and freedoms.
The United States has a rich history of allowing each and every citizen to express all kinds of political and personal opinions. Only during times of war has our government ever limited the rights of citizens to speak their minds. And when these limits were imposed, they were meant to help defeat the enemy, not embolden him.
Today, the situation is reversed. While we are most definitely at war with radical Islam, the media, and American lawmakers in both major parties are more sympathetic than ever to bowing to the demands of these same terrorists.
The Conservative Party stands for your freedom of speech, because it is pro-Constitution, period. Your rights include the right to offend, and that includes the right to offend Muslims as much as anyone other group. Pamela Geller and Americans of similar minds are encouraged to speak out against the horrors of Islamic terrorism, especially when they threaten our freedoms at home.
Shame on those Democrats and Republicans that have lost their way. The Conservative Party stands with Pamela Geller and anyone else who exercises their freedom of speech to protect our liberties.
